Deck the Halls!

Happy Belated Holidays! A few weeks ago it felt like I was searching endlessly for the perfect outfit for Christmas.  Any time I went out shopping I spent a lot of time in different stores trying on dresses and outfits that I just wasn't happy with. I ended up scrolling through ModCloth with the idea in my head that I wanted to wear plaid for Christmas. A "Christmas Plaid" if you will. In general I find the hype over ModCloth to be a little overrated and the prices (for me) to be a little above what I'm willing to spend on a casual dress that I want to wear several times.  I'm aware that you can adjust the price range of what you want to look at but somehow I never really wanted to take the leap. Although when I came across this dress for under $60, I was smitten!  I took a few photos Christmas eve with my pettiecoat under the dress to give it a bit more volume. Cool Days, Vintage Nights.

I recently went on a vintage research binge during my free time at work.  I use to do a lot more historical research while I was still in school and doing projects all the time.  Usually we would have to have at least  two book sources which always allowed me to venture over to the Free Library of Philadelphia and check out some great fashion books. This time around I poked around pinterest a lot which led me to a great flicker site Dovima2010 .  With over 30,000 images to pick through I was able to find what I was looking for and also discover some photos I hadn't seen before in old books or magazines. If I had to choose which era from the past is my favorite (in terms of fashion) I've always been drawn to the 1940s.  There just something about the way everyone is dresses that is sophisticated, refined and confident.
