Navigating Through Unemployment

Image
It has officially been six months since I got laid off from my job. I went to work on April 10th, expecting a pretty busy but normal day. Between designing the GabiFresh x Swimsuitsforall collection for 2020 and helping my technical designer sketch items for FullBeauty's swim AND working on the regular cruise assortment I got to the office early and started working hard. Whispers were echoing across the office that someone from Human Resources was in the office along with our VP and that something was going to happen. Honestly, I didn't think much of it! Our VP had regularly been making visits to the office since being put in charge of our division and having someone from HR didn't really surprise me. Maybe an hour or so into my day my cell phone rang at my desk; It was the VP calling and he asked me to come to the other side of the office and meet him in one of the other rooms. My initial thoughts were maybe they were investigating a complaint, wanted more info...

What I'm Thankful For

I have a lot to be thankful for this year; From my job to my friends and my family each deserves their own praise. From November 2014 to November 2015 I went through a lot and came out a stronger and better person for it.  My biggest struggles were finding a job and keeping a roof over my head.  I don't say that in a I was totally broke and couldn't afford a place to live but I was bouncing around from place to place hoping that something better would work out for me. The option of my car almost became reality a few times. Since moving out in May 2014, I've lived in 6 different apartments. 6! For a little over a year that's a lot of moving around for anyone. While all of this was terrifying and stressful I somehow saw it through and ended up landing my 1st job, finding a place to call home--temporarily and really settling into something for the first time in months. I'm no longer fretting about where I'm going to work or if I'm going to have enough money...

Ideas are brewing...

Hi all! I know that it's been quite a while but I've still been hustling trying to get that full time Assistant Designer job! I've been on a small handful on interviews and even got offered one but unfortunately I wasn't able to accept. I'm hoping that in the next few weeks (very short weeks) that I will find something else that might be better suited for me. I've lost count of all the applications and rejections that have come my way.  While rejection is hard as well as working your butt off and not reaping the benefits I (we, you) can't let that discourage you from driving forward. I graduated a little over two years ago now and I'm still hunting for that job I am meant for; not the girl who sits next to me, or the recent grad, not the person who walks in the door after me for an interview but me.  It's exhausting mentally going into an interview, being transparent, putting you and your work on the table and being vulnerable to criticism.  Le...
